Founded in 1915 and incorporated in 1945, Taylor Lumber Co. Ltd. is the Musquodoboit Valley’s largest and oldest privately owned sawmill. Since its establishment, this fifth generation business has generated consistent growth, from a small local sawmill and horse logging operation to one which encompasses a sawmill, planer mill, chipping plant, pallet plant, shaving baling plant, biomass co-generation plant and building supply store. The Company’s growth was and is driven by quality service, an entrepreneurial spirit and innovative and forward thinking.
Its continued success is a direct result of its dedicated employees to a steadfast commitment to sustainable operations and a business model that makes the most efficient use of natural resources. The wood products that are produced are shipped both domestically and internationally. In 1995, the biomass co-generation plant went into production producing 100% of their own power requirements and was the first privately owned sawmill in Nova Scotia to provide co-generated electricity to the public power utility. Robert Taylor is the president and has been with the Company for 46 years.
