Nova Scotia is home to abundant forest land - in fact, 75 per cent of the province is made up of forests. Nova Scotia is also home to many families who have relied on our forests for their livelihood over many generations. Nova Scotia is also home to many who may not directly depend on our forestry industry for their livelihood, however do indeed depend on the products it creates and the economic value it brings. The world wants - and needs - Northern Pulp's products.
The industry will be destroyed by decisions made without merit. These decisions must consider our ongoing work to continuously renew our resources for long-term employment and economic stability. Decisions must consider that we need this industry to support our families and this province for generations to come.
Paper Excellence, owner of Northern Pulp Nova Scotia Corporation, looks forward to establishing a new legacy with its world-class effluent treatment facility upon completion of the EA process and once constructed and commissioned. As an organization, we support the Boat Harbour Act which orders the cessation and replacement of the Boat Harbour Effluent Treatment Facility for the reception and treatment of mill effluent. We only ask for the time required to carry out this comprehensive process that continues to evolve and will extend beyond the current January 30, 2020 deadline legislated within the Act.
Please, take a moment to provide your information to automatically send our letter expressing your support of both Premier McNeil and your MLA in extending the Boat Harbour Act January 2020 deadline. The more voices we have now, the louder our collective voice will be in helping to guide our government to well- informed decisions about an industry that WE ALL rely on. We are proud to be forestry families of Nova Scotia.
